We went to York on Sunday......
as ever a flurry of Japanese tourists keen on photographs!

The weather forecast was "RAIN!"
We set off for a snack at Whitby and decided to head towards York.
Although it rained here and there the temperature was still warm.
Eventually we arrived in York.
By the minster I took this photograph, and it was only as I uploaded the picture did I focus in on the gargoyles!
Fascinating!
I loved this sign!
The weather forecast is good for the next few days so we are going to make the most of it.
Jon is taking a few days off and we are heading for the sunshine.

THE BRIDGE BUILDER
An old man, going down a lone highway
Came at the evening, cold and gray,
To a chasm vast and wide and steep,
With waters rolling cold and deep.
The old man crossed in the twilight dim;
The sullen stream had no fears for him.
But he turned when safe on the other side,
And built a bridge to span the tide.
"Old man," said a fellow pilgrim near,
"You are wasting your strength with building here.
Your journey will end with the ending day,
You never again will pass this way.
You've crossed the chasm, deep and wide,
Why build you this bridge at eventide?"
The builder lifted his old grey head.
"Good friend, in the path I have come," he said,
"There followed after me today
A youth whose feet must pass this way.
The chasm that was as naught to me
To that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be;
He, too, must cross in the twilight dim --
Good friend, I am building this bridge for him."

The Trnasporter Bridge is just an odd looking thing in itself. Fellow photographers I appreciate, geeting down low and holding that pose. Makes me realise how daft I look.

The gargoyles are gorgeous!!
As for the transporter bridge -- we used it once - our son was at the potty-training stage and needed to go while we were waiting. Had a hatchback which was level at the back and he sat there on his potty. He was still there when we had to go across!
Ah, thats the Bridge that went to America with the Auf Wiedersehen Pet Boys,init.haha.

The bridge doesn't look like it was built in 1911! It looks very modern in appearance to me. I have never tried one of those - must be a special experience.

I loved this post because I have been to both Whitby and York. In fact I remember in Your turning into the wrong lane from force of habit.

These are definitely odd shots. I love the shots of York - it is a beautiful city with an awe inspiring minster. The Japanese tourist made me smile too - very odd on such a wet day to linger so close to wet ground!

I love York, my daughter went to University there, it was wonderful to go and stay with her, unfortunately she didn't stay.

I really enjoyed seeing those photos of the gargoyles. They are fascinating and I saw lots when over there and in France. We don't have anything like that here in Canada! Boo Hoo!

The bridge could double as your odd shot, but I love the gargoyles. We see many Japanese tourists with cameras ready when we do our volunteering at Mt. Rainier National Park. They take turns taking pictures of each other with the mountain as background. I often offer to take one that includes the whole party--with their camera, of course.
