O is for.....
Oven!

Yiddish Proverb

It is the end of an era!
My electric oven finally ceased to be a few months ago.
As you know Jon can fix most things but this was beyond repair.
It was twenty years ago we got the oven, practically to the day.
It was in April, 1988, 2 months before we were married.
It was a wedding present from mum.
It has had a good inings.
At the time, in the world of electric cookers it was the best on the market...
Only the best!

We knew we would have to replace it a few months ago, but during the cold months we use the Aga to cook with.
Now the weather is improving, the Aga will not be used and we will just use the new oven to do all the cooking.

I am more of a meals person than a cake/scones type, but I do fancy getting my teeth into some good cake recipes.....
watch this space.

You have an Aga! I have always been interested in those ovens. But yes I would not be wanting it in the warmer weather. It was 90 degrees here yesterday.

Good luck in your search for a new one. There are some beauties on the market now. I was oven shopping just this weekend.

Thank you for all you so to keep this fun Wednesday activity happening. I look forward to it.

Good choice for "O".

Takes a while when switching from electric to gas, to get it right.

The question is, "Will new O be as good as Old O"?

Mines up,
Come visit

Enjoy your new oven, and bake lots of good things. I got a new washer and dryer a few weeks ago, and I love them. Isn't it fun getting new stuff?

I love the Yiddish proverb, by the way. Wonderful! And it's so true, isn't it?

My ABC Wednesday post for "O" is up. C’est la vie.

I had a rather difficult time with O this week. Hunted all over in different countries and finally came back home lol! A new oven - how wonderful! Lots of great expectations from your family, I'm sure!

It is wonderful to get new things, especially an oven if you're a baker. Sounds like you are! I love fresh scones with butter and jam with a good hot cuppa tea! Have it ready when I come to visit, okay Denise??? lol Come and see me O post.

What a promise--cake recipes!
(and I wouldn't mind a scone recipe, either!)

I goofed up Mr. Linky by hitting enter before I had the current posts' URL in the box--sorry.

I meant it to link here.

Wow! A new oven! Sounds wonderful to me. ;-)

I hope you enjoy the new oven for another twenty years.

Blogger has somewhat fixed the word verification thing. They have gone back to mostly legible letters in their so called words.

My O will post around midnight here. I'll come back nearer to then to sign in to Mr. Linky.

I'm sure you cooked delicious meals with this oven! And imagine that you bought it in 1988 ... At that time it was an oven of "modern technology" ... compared to the ovens of 1970's, 1960's, 1950's and before :)

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

I don't think we have Aga on the Norwegian market, but I know the feeling you get when it gets closer to replacement time. We are contemplating doing something about our Siemens.

Wow, are you going to keep the oven as a momento since it brings you and John so many memories? I hope your new oven will give you 20 more years of cooking joy.

Great O topic!
We are going to have to replace ours very soon now, it is hanging on against all reason.

Juha Ylitalo said...

I have to admit that over was not on my list of words that start with Oven (which shows lack of imagination from my part...)

Anyway. My response for O is Oulankajoki. It is river that flows from Kuusamo (Finland) to Russia.

Blue said...

Oh the joys of Aga's, have always wanted one after living with a friend who cooked by one.
But, I know come, summer another oven is needed - good luck with finding the right new one for you.

Have a good week

We got a new stove about 5 yrs ago, it's an electric flat top. The one without the coils showing. I love it. Alot easier to clean.

My "O' is now up on my blog. You can see it here: http://discoverpa.blogspot.com And, also by clicking on my name.

Enjoy your new oven. I looked at my oven all week and didn't even think to use it for O...duh.

My sister had an aga, was nice in the Vermont winter but not much fun in the summer!

Love the proverb - and the shot of Elsie.

My O post is written and will auto-post in six hours' time ....

At Dragonstar's prodding, I have joined the party... 'Hi, there...!'
Twenty years seems like a good innings for an electric cooker, must have been a good 'un. Hope the new one is worthy.

Love the Yiddish quote!
Happy ABC Wednesday and thanks so much for making the middle of the week something to look forward to.

kml said...

Have fun with your new oven! New toys are always exciting!

Dina said...

Nice Yiddish proverb. When you get something new, we say in Hebrew "Titchadesh!" "Chadash" means new. So the blessing means May YOU be renewed by your new thing.
My O is posted.

Petunia said...

You have something old and something new today... I have something old.
Hope you will be pleased with the new oven. I don't like new things in my house. When I got a new oven a few years ago -I had to put myself togehter to bake a cake... I was so afraid to manage the new one and that the cake would't be any good....lol!
It's great to have Mr. Linky back again:)

Jan said...

I know how it is with ovens. My fave was an old O'Keefe and Merritt. I saw one recently at an antique store and was all jealous. Doesn't make sense, oh, well.

Janet said...

I've read about the Aga and it sounds interesting. I don't mind baking but I hate cooking so the oven is more important to me than the rest of the stove.

Thanks, Mrs. Nesbitt! I've never seen one of these before. Like losing an old friend! My "O" is up.

Hullo!

My post is up at last! I haven't been blogging since last Friday, not even to help Bob! Hey ho...

Speaking of ovens- please ask hubby a question for me???? -Should a new fan oven be blowing a draught out of its closed door so badly that you can feel it across the room???? BEcause the fitters are telling us this is normal. Grrrr....... Magnet, shmagnet.

raf said...

Oh yes, Mrs. Nesbitt, a fine O it is for ABC Wednesday. May your new oven prove to be as good as the old.

Mine is posted now.

good morning.... well, it is already almost 11:00 a.m....but I am a bit slow...as always.

Thank goodness my oven is working well....but...I did have to buy a new mixer because I have begun to bake bread and like to mix it in my mixer. I went for a heavy duty CuisinArt...have yet to try it as I just got it a few days ago. 800 watts better be as good as my old 250 KitchanAid was...or else!

anyway.... looking forward to your baking trials.... got any good recipes?
my ABC is up now..

I bought my current electric oven when youngerson was 10 days old.... he's now 26. He looks pretty good for his age, but, sadly, the stove hasn't kept pace, and is looking pretty tatty now. Maybe a nice new gas oven when this one dies completely..... and a complete kitchen makeover of course!

Hi Denise, better late than never. Just got back from a very busy 10 days and finally got my Wednesday ABC post up for your enjoyment.
Love the oven and knowing you ,from this blog, the meals that were made in it were absolutely first class.

After living in Mexico for a few months, I use my oven less and less. The Mexican cuisine does not lend itself to lots of oven cooking and I got pretty used to it.

Yes, to the Robert McClosky quote above. Thus I signed on before I posted my "O" blog, my debut, BTW. Then I figured I'd sign on the correctt way and delete the first link . . . but . . . I'll leave that to you, Mrs. N. Something smells wonderful in that oven. :>)
