SOMETHING TOLD THE WILD GEESE

By Rachel Field

Something told the wild geese

It was time to go,

Though the fields lay golden

Something whispered, "snow."

Leaves were green and stirring,

Berries, luster-glossed,

But beneath warm feathers

Something cautioned, "frost."

All the sagging orchards

Steamed with amber spices,

But each wild breast stiffened

At remembered ice.

Something told the wild geese

It was time to fly,

Summer sun was on their wings,

Winter in their cry.

As you can see, we had snow this afternoon.
I was putting Jo to bed and thought he looked beautiful.

Have a good night!

and a good night wishes made me wonder if it was 5 am you meant . The comments during last evening and this morning got it all clearer. You went early to bed yesterday to have a long ride this Easter morning. Hope you will tell about that later.
